Here are some highlights from Day 2:
It was another action packed day at Microsoft Ignite as we learned the latest about how Microsoft is helping customers with their digital transformation. Many of these announcements are focused around how organizations are adopting Microsoft Azure, but today we wanted to highlight a couple of really interesting things that Microsoft has released around making sure Azure remains the most trusted and secure public cloud for companies and workloads of all sizes.
Azure Secure Score is replicating technology that is already found in Office 365. Microsoft announced that they will provide every organization on Azure a Secure Score. This score will represent the overall health and security posture of a customer’s Azure environment, and enable them to take action to remediate any risks and strengthen security in the needed areas. Secure Score is completely free, and we would urge any organization that has not done a full analysis of their Azure environment to use Secure Score as a starting point to build secure and well managed Infrastructure in the cloud. Please reach out to your PCM Microsoft Team if you need any assistance or have any questions in deploying Azure Secure Score.
Azure Blueprints and Azure Policy – Like security, compliance. Guidelines, and policies need to be built into your cloud environment, not merely added as an afterthought. To make sure that you have the tools to enforce those policies, Microsoft has been adding additional capabilities to the previously announced Azure Policy, and this week is announcing Azure Blueprints. Azure Blueprints allows you to create environments in Azure that enforce policies, role based access control, and resource templates, so that your cloud environments are compliant from inception. Organizations that have been looking at ways to enforce policies across multiple business units while still empowering their organizations to be agile and flexible will find Blueprints to be an invaluable tool.

Azure Confidential Computing – Microsoft announced that they will soon be releasing a new VM series that enable what they are calling Confidential Computing. By using Intel SGX technology, Confidential Computing can protect data while it is being processed, providing confidentiality and integrity of data as well as protecting against malicious internal and external threats. Confidential Computing also ensures that you are maintaining control of your data throughout its entire lifecycle. This level of security is a first for any public cloud provider, and companies that have very sensitive data, or very sensitive IP, should be excited to take advantage of these new capabilities.
The addition of these features really show the level of investment Microsoft is making to its trusted and secure public cloud, Microsoft Azure, and speak to the overall maturity of the platform itself as more and more enterprises begin to move production workloads. We are excited to see what other features Microsoft makes available.
